Membership

The Corporation shall have two categories of membership, as follows:

Class A, Voting Members.
Class A Members shall be comprised of Wholesale Brokers who are either a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation or limited liability corporation licensed and domiciled in one of the New England States as a Special Insurance Broker (i.e., Surplus Lines agent/broker), and who are engaged in insurance activities predominately (80% or more) as a wholesaler. All applicants for Class A Membership shall be principally engaged in accepting and placing surplus lines insurance on behalf of producing agents. Only agents/brokers licensed by their state’s insurance department as a surplus lines agents/brokers are eligible.

Class B, Non-voting Members.
Class B Members shall be comprised of all other organizations and individuals having an interest in the mission of the Corporation, including firms that are subsidiary to or affiliated with Class A Member firms, any group or organization that is affiliated with the insurance industry and provides service or support to wholesale brokers or companies, and any member of the public who is nominated and elected by the Board of Directors.

Application for Membership
The procedure for obtaining membership in the Corporation shall require completion of the appropriate application, which shall be reviewed by the Membership Committee and submitted with a recommendation for action to the Board of Directors.

The Membership Committee shall maintain and periodically review rules of eligibility for Class A Membership Requirements, which shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in the wholesale/surplus lines business;
  • Knowledge of and willingness to abide by the By-Laws and Code of Ethics of the Corporation; and
  • A reputation in the industry for ethical and proper business conduct.
